and the return of Bolivian troops from the SOA

May 1st - June 26th, 2006

Por Campaña en Bolivia por el cierre de la Escuela de las Américas

The School of the Americas (SOA) is a military training center in the United States. Since the school’s founding in 1946, it has trained more than 70 thousand Latin American and Caribbean soldiers.

Among the SOA’s graduates, are those responsible for the most notorious cases of human rights violations on the continent, including Hugo Banzer Suárez, former Bolivian Dictator and Robinson Iriarte, army sharpshooter in Cochabamba’s 2000 water war.

Recently, the governments of Venezuela, Uruguay, and Argentina decided not to send any more troops to the SOA.
